- Original Unna Boot. Impregnated with zinc oxide and calamine to soothe irritated skin. Non-raveling cotton gauze, uniformly coated. Dries quickly providing a semi-rigid cast. Availble in 3" and 4" widths. General Description of an Unna Boot: An Unna Boot is a gauze bandage that is saturated with a soothing blend of ointments. The gauze is impregnated with either a zinc-oxide or calamine paste, and are available either in 3-inch or 4-inch widths. The ointment covered bandage is applied from the length of the foot to the knee, a dry gauze bandage is then applied over the paste and it is then followed by the application of an ace wrap (elastic bandage).
