- Plantar fasciitis splints are called "night" splints because they are typically worn at night durning sleep or while resting after activity. Since the most severe pain and inflammation of plantar fascitis often occur in the morning, night splints stretch the plantar fascia and achilles tendon at night to help reduce ligamentous contracture, inflammation and associated pain, and helps promote healing of the soft tissues.
