The contour allows the sensor to easily conform to the patient monitoring site while holding the optical components in correct alignment, assuring accurate readings with easy application. The soft foam backing provides comfort for long term monitoring while immobilizing the sensor on the monitoring site. A sensor that fits securely is less susceptible to the interference caused by excessive patient motion and ambient light.
